Punctuation and Capitalization

 

Capitalization Rules

  1. All Spanish sentences begin with capital letters.
  2. Names of people begin with capital letters.
  3. Names of places (cities, regions, countries, continents) and holidays begin with capital letters.
  4. Titles are not capitalized unless abbreviated. (Sr. Ud.)
  5. Some words that are normally capitalized in English may not be capitalized in Spanish. (nationalities, religions, languages, months, and days.)

3. Question marks and exclamation marks need to be placed at the beginning and the end of the exclamation or question.
